In December 1994, residents of Duxi Forest Farm — a state-managed forestry collective in Guizhou Province, southwestern China — reported a large unidentified object passing over the forest at low altitude. Witnesses described it as brilliantly luminous, emitting an intense glow visible across the surrounding area, and accompanied by a powerful roaring sound that distinguished it from any aircraft familiar to local residents.

What followed the object's passage was the event's most consequential and scientifically significant element. Investigators arriving at the site in the aftermath discovered that more than 400 acres — approximately 165 hectares — of forested land had been physically flattened. The trees were not burned, not shattered by explosive overpressure, and not toppled randomly as they would be by straight-line winds or a tornado. Instead, they were bent and pressed in a directional, radial pattern consistent with a massive downward and outward force having been applied across the entire affected zone simultaneously — a force profile with no obvious conventional source.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences, China's premier national scientific institution, dispatched investigators to examine the physical evidence. Researchers from the Yunnan Observatory, which specializes in astronomical observation and related atmospheric phenomena, also participated in the formal investigation. Both bodies treated the event as a serious physical phenomenon warranting rigorous scientific inquiry rather than dismissal.

The investigation's findings described the damage pattern as unexplained by any conventional natural mechanism. Wind events of sufficient force to flatten 400 acres of mature forest would leave meteorological traces — barometric records, witness reports of severe weather, damage patterns consistent with known storm types — none of which were present. The formal scientific conclusion was that the cause was unknown.

By land area affected, the Guizhou 1994 event represents one of the largest physical trace UAP cases in the documented global record.
