ISRO Glacier Expedition — Samudra Tapu Humanoid Sighting

During the summer field season of 2004, an Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientific expedition was conducting glacier mass-balance research in the Samudra Tapu Valley — an extremely remote high-altitude glacial basin in the Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, accessed only through difficult mountain terrain at elevations exceeding 4,000 metres. The team was led by Dr. Anil Kulkarni of ISRO's Space Applications Centre in Ahmedabad, a glaciologist of national standing conducting authoritative fieldwork on Himalayan glacier retreat.

At a point during the expedition, the entire team of 14 scientists and support personnel observed an unidentified figure approximately 50 metres from their position along the mountain ridge. The figure was described as approximately four feet tall, metallic in appearance, and humanoid in form. It was observed to walk along the ridge before becoming airborne — lifting off without any visible means of propulsion — and disappearing from view.

The observation lasted approximately 40 minutes in total, providing an unusually extended window for a group of trained scientific observers to assess what they were seeing. Dr. Kulkarni subsequently conducted separate, individual interviews with all 14 members of the expedition, a structured investigative protocol consistent with his scientific training. All 14 accounts were independently consistent with one another on the core elements: the figure's approximate size, metallic appearance, bipedal movement, and aerial departure.

A detailed official report was compiled and submitted through formal ISRO channels upward to the Indian Army, relevant intelligence agencies, and the Prime Minister's Office — an escalation pathway indicating institutional seriousness at the highest level of the Indian state. The report was subsequently classified and has not been publicly released under any freedom of information process.

No conventional explanation — drone, wildlife, atmospheric optical effect — has been proposed that accounts for all 14 witnesses observing a consistent metallic humanoid figure becoming airborne.
